Nestled in the neighbourhood estate of Telok Blangah, The Marshmallow Tree is easily accessible from Telok Blangah MRT. And as with its cafe’s name, most of the dishes are centered around marshmallow.

And dont be misled by the photos shared by many on Instagram, the marshmallow offered with the drinks is a marshmallow stick, not the marshmallow tree which is the centrepiece of the communal table. The only menu is displayed at the cashier counter. Items are pretty limited with only 4 sandwiches and 2 waffles (plain with option of adding ice cream, or drizzled with condense milk and milo powder).

And from the menu, we ordered:-

1) Chickens day off, $14.80 (above) – Sliced tender turkey ham with melted cheese toasted between slices of ciabatta, topped with creamy cranberry mayo and onion sauce. Frankly, I was not expecting much (of this) but it’s really good! The ciabatta was toasted such that the crust is crispy and chewy on the inside, while the cranberry mayo pulled everything together beautifully. A must order.

2) Waffle with single scoop, $7.50 (above)

3) S’mores pie with ice cream, $8.80 (above) – It’s very much like eating a huge chocolate chip biscuit, but in the form of a pie. But what’s innovative is that they included marshmallow within the pie. The staff recommended vanilla for my additional scoop of ice cream, citing that the other flavours will make the entire dish too sweet. And I’m glad I went with his recommendation too.

4) Latte, $4.50 (above)

5) Hot chocolate, $5.80 (above) – I was a little disappointed when this was served. It looked like something which I can make on my own at home. Think Cadbury chocolate. But despite its plain appearance, it was thick and good.

Generally, I enjoyed my time at The Marshmallow Tree. So while it was the marshmallow-on-stick that’s given out with every drink which first drew me, the food justified my visit. However, I wont recommend coming in a big group as there’re only 2 communal tables, and the food is pretty limited. I did not try the other desserts like their ‘macaron smores’ (marshmallow sandwiched between macaron) at $4.50 and ‘domo cup (marshmallow with nutella and biscuit) at $4.50 as I do feel a little silly paying so much for that, although I do credit them for their creativity.
