My friends and I were thinking of a Korean restaurant to meet for dinner when one suggested Todamgol which was a recommendation by a Korean friend. As such, reservation was made for 8 people for a Saturday evening.

And Todamgol is a 10 to 15 minutes walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT. Parking wise, it’s limited to what’s available in front of the shop houses. And upon arrival, we were led into a private room which could sit up to 12 people.

And from the menu, we ordered:-

1) Bu dae jji gae, $35 (above) – Vegetable stew with noodles, spam & mushroom. Looked good and was tasty too.

2) Yang poon bi bim bab, $20 (above) – Large brass bowl bibimbab. I liked that this was served in a large brass bowl! Whenever I watch my Korean shows, I would always see how the Koreans will throw and stir everything in a big bowl before eating straight out of it. So yes! I don’t need my bibimbab to be served in a hot stone bowl. This was really delicious with a good and wide variety of vegetables used for the bibimbab. A must try.

3) Jok bal, $45 (above) – Boiled pig trotter. All parts of the pig trotter were used. Unfortunately, we were not able to properly appreciate this cold dish as we wanted something meaty.

4) Chicken (above) – This is not on their menu. We had wanted to order their ‘si gol tong dak’ (Korean fried whole chicken) at $25 but it was not available. As such, the staff suggested this (chicken wings) for us instead. And I really like the sauce used for the chicken. Meat was juicy and tender too.

5) Mo deum jun, $38 (above) – Assorted pancake. Flavours included sesame leaf with pork, chili with pork, shiitake mushroom with pork and kimchi. However, the pancakes were on the oily side.

6) Have mool pa jun, $28 (above) – Seafood pancake with spring onion.

7) Sam gyub sal, $18 (above) – Pork belly. This was disappointing and very unsatisfying.

I definitely recommend Todamgol for an authentic Korean dining experience. They have a very diversified menu with dishes like ‘sesame leaf pancake’, ‘spicy pollack egg soup’, ‘mussel soup’ and ‘acorn jello’ which we don’t often see in most Korean restaurants. In fact, Todamgol was recommended for their pancakes. They have 11 flavours.

Service wise, there’s a bell which we could press to get the staff’s attention for both room and non-room tables. However, we realised that the staff don’t respond very promptly to the the bell. We ended up having to leave our private room to look for the staff personally.
