Brunch @ Red Baron

August 27, 2015 in European (cafe) by thywhaleliciousfay

Having first learnt about Red Baron in May 2015, I have checked them out thrice. In May, July and August. Well, I needed that many visits to try sufficient (number of) dishes before posting a review. =)

Getting to Red Baron can be a little tricky. Located within Gillman Barracks, they are not located within walking distance of any MRT station. One has to either drive in or take the public transport. One will need to walk a fair stretch of distance (via the sheltered walkway) if one comes by bus and alights at the bus stop along Alexandra Road. Parking wise, one wouldn’t have much difficulty as there’s ample parking lots.

And from the menu, we ordered:-

1) Chicken chocolate mole, $14 (above) – Lemongrass chicken thigh, chocolate mole sauce, tomatoes.

2) Garlic butter prawn pasta, $14 (above) – Prawns, garlic butter, chilli flakes.

3) Quinoa goreng, $16 (above) – Red quinoa, prawns, chicken, ikan bilis, topped with a sunny-side up egg. Instead of white rice or even brown rice, it was pretty interesting that quinoa was used. And cause I was so intrigued by the quinoa (which had nicely soaked up the ‘goreng’ flavour), I ate more than half of the served portion! (I was supposed to share the dish with my friend. Watching my diet lah. Haha!)

4) French toast, $7 (+ $3, ice cream) (above) – Brioche, gula melaka, bananas. Most would probably come to Red Baron for their french toast as shared by many on instagram. And this was indeed not too bad. We went with the staff’s recommendation of coconut for the flavour of our ice cream. However, during my most recent trip in August 2015, I got to learn that they have since removed it from their menu. Although I won’t rule out the possibility that they may just bring this back if everyone asks for it.

5) Banana loaf, $5 (above)

6) Latte, $5 (above)

Red Baron was a nice hideout to chill at. However, as it’s a small café, finding seats within the air-conditioned café can be a little difficult when they are busier on weekends. Else, one may choose to sit alfresco if the weather is good.
