Dinner @ Manna Story // CLOSED

January 7, 2013 in Korean by thywhaleliciousfay

Having a strong craving for Korean cuisine, my colleague and I hoped over to JCube after work.

And we got what I call as the table with the best view. Having dinner while overlooking the ice rink? I felt like I was back in Korea for dinner during winter. It somewhat reminded me of the show ‘Stairway to Heaven‘ too. Keke.

And from the menu, we ordered:-

1) Side dishes, Complimentary (above) – The wide range of side dishes came complimentary (as with any other Korean restaurants) and were free flow too! There’s a top-up corner where anyone can bring their empty bowls to refill the side dishes they wish to have more.

2) Ginseng chicken soup, $16.80 (above) – The chicken which was stuffed with rice, was served the authentic way with noodle and a small (separate) bowl of seasoning salt. This was normal though I felt the rice was not as sticky as it should be.

3) Budae chigae, $25 (above) – Comprised of ham, sausage, kimchi and ramyeon, the portion was meant for two. This was normal and was ordered because we were having a slight craving for processed food (luncheon meat). Haha.

4) BBQ pork, $12.80 (above) – Normal.

5) Cabbage wraps with pork, $15 (above) – I liked this dish. The pork, though looked really fatty, was exactly how it should be. Fat, tender and absolutely yummy. Though the cabbage was a struggle to bite into smaller pieces by mouth. Ladies, you have been warned. Do not even attempt to chew through the cabbage if you’re here on a date.

6) Spring onion pancake, $8.50 (above) – This was a disappointment. The pancake was thin and had little ingredient.

7) Baked kimchi rice with cheese, $8.80 (small) (above) – This was nice. I enjoyed the kimchi rice, though having it with too much cheese was a slight over kill.

8) Rice cake with cheese in spicy sauce, $12 (above) – Nice! The rice cake was chewy while the cheese added a nice touch to the usual spicy rice cake.

9) Kimbab combo – Chicken & anchovy & egg roll, $8.80 (above) – Though the most simple looking dish, I really enjoyed this the most. My chopsticks kept gravitating towards the anchovy rolls.

Generally, I say this place is more of value-for-money. A good place to come to for a quick Korean fix if you are in the area (Jurong East). Service wise, the staff are really polite. I have been here at least five times and have not been disappointed by the staff. Once, there was a female staff who would greet us in Korean with a big smile on her face whenever she served us our dish. In fact, during that dinner, I chewed on something spicy and was sticking out my tongue which she must have caught me doing so because she immediately brought us cups of ice water. It’s these little actions that made the dining experience memorable.
