Brunch @ The Study

August 16, 2015 in European (cafe) by thywhaleliciousfay

It was one of those days when my friends and I decided to meet for brunch cause we haven’t been cafe-ing. Haha. And I suggested The Study cause I was interested to try out the donuts which many were raving on instagram. And with that, a reservation was made through Chope. Oh yes, I am trying to gain some Chope-dollars. It’s like… Might as well right? Haha. Oh my, I am starting to become so auntie!

Which of course, my friends teased me for being so kiasu (in making the reservation and coming so early) cause the eatery was pretty empty. In fact, we had the place to ourselves for a good 1.5 hours when we arrived at 11.30am. Well, I guess The Study is probably more popular for their dinners and drinks (than brunch).

And from the brunch menu, we ordered:-

1) Skinny fries, $5 (above)

2) Iberico pork and foie gras scotch egg, $17 (above) – With pickled beetroot, capers. I felt this was something different from the usual offerings. Although I couldn’t quite make out of the foie gras, I enjoyed the meat layer that wrapped the egg. Slightly crispy which saltiness was balanced by the egg. And this works well for one who needs a no-carb(ohydrate) option. Haha.

3) Coconut & ricotta pancakes, $19 (above) – With mango & mint salsa, lime creme fraiche. We did not really like this. The batter was too dense and… Sticky?

4) Wagyu beef burger, $30 (above) – With smoked bacon, cheese, onion jam, skinny fries. I don’t take beef, but my friends were not too impressed with this. And at $30, they felt it was too expensive.

5) Doughnuts, $15 (above) – With cinnamon sugar, salted caramel cream. Unfortunately, our donuts were a little burnt. I rather they do a new batch than serve us these overly deep-fried buns. Again, the batter was dense and sticky. I was hoping for a fluffy version of donut. But we agreed the salted caramel cream was good.

6) Latte, $6 (above) – Very acidic.

We were not impressed with the food. Which was a pity cause I enjoyed the setting of the eatery. We got the corner sofa seats (nearer to the entrance) which probably was the best spot. We could catch glimpses of what’s happening outside through the window, catch actions of the chef at the counter and people watch (within the cafe).

Will I recommend checking The Study out? Well… Probably not for brunch. I took a peek at their lunch & dinner menu (pages 1, 2, 3, 4) and the offerings for their non-brunch seemed more interesting.
