Dinner @ Fleur de Sel Le

This is yet another (drama) episode. My girlfriends and I made reservation to dine at a restaurant a few units away from Fleur de Sel Le. However, the other restaurant was still in their pre-official-opening phase and the a-la carte menu was not ready (They only had an omakase menu, and they are not a Japanese restaurant. Hmm…). Coupled with some bad service, my girlfriends and I left to search for another restaurant along the same stretch.
Thankfully, there’s Fleur de Sel Le. I mean, what’s the odd! To have Fleur de Sel Le on my restaurants-to-try list, and it being less than 3 minutes walk from where we were. =) And although it was a last-minute decision to pop by Fleur de Sel Le, we called to make reservation as we didn’t want to risk walking in and being turned away. Cause by then, my girlfriends and I were really hungry! Ha.
And from the menu (pages 1, 2), we ordered:-
1) Bread, Complimentary (above) – I am pretty much into baking (especially breads), and the baked-in-house sourdough bread was pretty good! It was dense and chewy, though I thought it could have been more porous. But hey, baking a really good sourdough isn’t easy. Lots of effort goes into it as the entire process can last over a few days. And it’s interesting cause one could have the bread with unsalted butter, crystal salt with rosemary or tomato basil-flavoured salt.
2) Amuse bouche, Complimentary (above) – Served with yam chip.
3) Le homard, $25 (above) – Boston lobster bisque, lobster tartar with sour cream and croutons. Upon served, the staff would pour the soup into the plate. And the soup was buttery smooth, with a tinge of saltiness. Perfect! We cleaned every drop of the soup by wiping the bowl with the sourdough bread! Ha.
4) Le foie gras de canard, $29 (above) – Seared duck liver, apple tatin and duck jus vinaigrette. I liked the introduction of the poached apple. It was a mouthful of salty and sweet at the same time. Ha. But I didn’t like the sauce though, which I thought was a distraction.
5) Les saint-jacques, $29 (above) – Pan seared scallops, mushrooms, arugula, parma ham and chicken jus. The sauce was really good.
6) Le lapin, $35 (above) – Homemade pasta, shredded braised rabbit, mushrooms, olives, tomato and rabbit jus. We were intrigued when we saw rabbit. And it’s crazy how the dish had more meat than pasta. Haha. And for those who are curious, rabbit meat taste almost like chicken. Still, not for the faint-hearted I guess cause 1 of my girlfriends couldn’t bring herself to touch the dish. And for the first time, I actually wished there was more pasta cause it was pretty good. There was so much meat that I felt there wasn’t enough pasta in the plate for me to savour it properly.
7) L’agneau, $43 (above) – 8h slow cooked lamb rump with garlic, eggplant, capsicum, zucchini and rosemary lamb sauce.
8) Le homard, $49 (above) – Sauteed maine lobster, pearl onions, ratte potatoes, tomatoes, olives, bisque jus and basil oil.
9) Le chocolat, $18 (above) – Chocolate and pralines layers, chocolate sauce, fleur de sel caramel and ice cream.
10) Le citron, $15 (above) – Lemon custard tart with basil sorbet and Italian meringue.
11) Latte, $6 (above) – At the end of the dinner, the waiting staff came and asked if we wanted any coffee and tea. And as always, we said yes. But we didn’t realise this was chargeable since it normally isn’t. So yes. One may want to take note. Although I must add that our drinks came with biscuits, which were the bomb. 1 of my girlfriends loved the biscuit so much that she thick-skinly cheekily asked if we could have more. To which, the staff very graciously surprised us with a plate more. And it’s not just a plate of 3 more (since there were 3 of us), but a hill of biscuits.
One would probably miss Fleur de Sel Le if one is in the area and is looking for somewhere to eat cause there’s nothing much on their shopfront that attracts. And their interior decor doesn’t excite or intrigue one much if one peers in too. It’s very simple but elegant with cleverly placed vintage-looking furniture and an open kitchen.
But please don’t do that (and walk away), cause I would definitely recommend Fleur de Sel Le. The ambience was nice and comfortable. When te restaurant got busier around 8.30pm and all the tables were occupied, my girlfriends and I didn’t realized it cause the tables were placed in such a way that we had our own space; Need not worry about others eavesdropping our conversation. You be surprised. There are surprisingly a number of nosey people. Or our conversation is just too interesting. Haha!
Food didn’t disappoint and service was warm and great. Fleur de Sel Le is ideal for a peaceful meal.
