I was craving for Korean black bean sauce noodles when my girlfriend suggested Tae Woo. She swears by Tae Woo for their jajangmyeon. Thus, with her strong recommendation and my curious stomach, a group of 6 (of us) was off to Tae Woo!

And from the menu (pages 1, 2, 3, 4), we ordered:-

1) Jajangmyeon, $12 (above) – Black bean sauce noodle. My girlfriend, having come to Tae Woo a few times, pre-warned us of the huge portion. Thus, we ordered for 2 to share 1 bowl. And my girlfriend is spot on with her recommendation. Noodle was chewy and nice! I noticed the noodles used were thinner than what’s served in most Korean restaurants. Sauce was not too sweet. A must try!

2) Tang su yuk, $26 (small) (above) – Sweet and sour pork. $26 for small, $38 for regular. I wouldn’t have ordered this on typical days because it sounds like a Chinese dish (It’s just me; stubborn. I like to order Korean-sounding food in Korean restaurants. Ha). But we decided to give it a go cause I’ve been seeing it on my recent Korean shows. And this was definitely different. It’s not as sweet as our local version.

3) Mul mandu, $8 (above) – Boiled dumplings. I felt this was a little on the bland side.

4) Gun mandu, $8 (above) – Fried dumplings. Wasn’t too impressed with this. Fillings barely filled up the space within the deep fried dumpling skin.

If I am having a serious craving for black bean sauce noodle, I will definitely think of Tae Woo. Serious craving defined as when my craving needs to be satisfied with a good, solid plate of zha jiang mian. No sub-standard allowed!

Service was normal, if not minimal. Although one incident did stand out (in a not so good way). One of my (bimbo) girlfriend was asking us to check if there was pancake on the menu, when a (auntie) staff overheard and said “no” in a very strict, and what also seem to be, offended voice. Hmm…
