Brunch @ Boufe Boutique Cafe

February 9, 2015 in European (cafe) by thywhaleliciousfay

My girlfriend and I were off to check out Boufe, a new addition to Pheonix Park, on a bright (and may I say, hot too) Sunday morning. =) And getting to the café can be a little tricky if one does not drive. My friend chose to take a 15 minutes walk from Redhill MRT station while I took the bus. Luckily I had direct bus from home. Ha!

And from the entrance of Pheonix Park to the café, it’s another 5 minutes walk. We were lucky as the security guard gave us a lift with the buggy. Availability of buggy service depends on the number of guards on shift. If there’s only one, he wouldn’t be able to leave his post.

We were (second time) lucky to be seated upon arrival (with no prior reservation made) as we noticed a queue forming by 1pm. And we liked the interior décor of the café with white being the dominant colour. I was particularly drawn to the metal frames used to accessorise the lights. Saw something similar at the Exhibition of da Vinci in ArtScience Museum and a similar metal frame cost $79 each. (^^lll)

And from the menu (pages 1, 2, 3, 4), we ordered:-

1) Triple b, $21 (above) – Boufe’s big breakfast. Freshly baked buttery croissant served with scrambled eggs, assorted sausages, streaky bacon, sauteed mushroom and fresh greens. I don’t normally order big breakfast. Cause to me, it’s just throwing of different ingredients together with minimal cooking. However, the croissant (which I read were freshly baked daily from their instagram) were buttery and good. Nice. Meat for the sausages were pork.

2) Eggs benedict, $16 (above) – Homemade brioche with honey baked ham, poached eggs, homemade hollandaise sauce and fresh greens. Similarly, we were impressed with the bread! With its taste enhanced by toasting the brioche after slathering it with generous of butter. My girlfriend and I were surprised we were still hungry for more of these tasty breads after finishing our mains. Goes to show how light and fluffy the bread were!

3) Buffalo wings, $10 (above) – My girlfriend saw the wings on our neighbouring table and was tempted to try. And thus, we placed additional order for this. And the wings were good. For some odd reason, I compared it to KFC chicken. (^^lll) The batter were crisp and not too thick while meat was juicy and tender! A little spicy, but that’s only because I don’t take spicy. And the wings were so good that I forgot to there was dipping sauce! Yes, it’s good on its own!

4) Citron tart, $5.50 (above) – Really good. We liked how light and slightly sour the filling was. I liked the additional introduction of what seemed to be almond between the lemon filling and crust. A must order.

5) Opera cake, $7 (above) – This unfortunately was a let down. Opera cake is one of the more difficult cakes where it comprises of many different layers. I was looking forward to the anticipated crunch as I sliced through the cake with my fork, but did not hear / feel any. Their take on opera cake was too soft and nutty for my liking.

6) Latte, $4.80 (above)

7) Iced caramel latte, $6.50 (above)

My girlfriend and I enjoyed ourselves. Ambience and service was good. I was particularly impressed by the waiting staff. The female staff was attending to another table when her eyes met my girlfriend’s (who wanted to placed additional order). And once she finished attending to the table, she came over and asked if there was something she could help us with. I was impressed cause not many waiting staff would bother to follow up. And the thing was, my girlfriend merely held her eye contact with the waiting staff slightly longer. She wasn’t raising her hand or anything.

But of course, one thing we noticed that they could improve (which I believe would improve with time) was the seating management. Halfway into our meal, we changed our table to allow the staff to join 3 tables for a bigger group of customer. We had no issue in relocating, but I noticed the staff shifted different groups of customers on 2 occasion (during my short brunch) to better cater for bigger groups.

Nonetheless, I will recommend brunch at Boufe. Brunch is from 10am to 3pm, while dinner is from 6pm to 10pm. I also thought it was an ingenious idea that they allowed a small retail space within Boufe. So yes, fans of OHVOLA may rejoice!
