Brunch @ Kitchenette

March 22, 2015 in European (cafe) by thywhaleliciousfay

I don’t normally have any reason to be in Novena. But because of work, I had the chance to be on a few occasions. And while wondering where to have lunch, I suddenly thought of Kitchenette! Just nice. Keke. And so, I managed to lunch at Kitchenette twice.

Kitchenette is located in Goldhill Plaza, which is a short 5 to 8 minutes walk from Novena MRT station. One would just need to cross the traffic junction. Kitchenette is what we could call a ‘simple shop’. They are not huge on their interior design. Instead, a tall cabinet of wine bottles occupied 1 of the walls in the unit. Apparently, they/re also a bottle shop. Taken from their website, their wines are handpicked from all over the globe, including lesser-known regions. They aim to allow all to taste excellent wines at reasonable prices. And one can choose to take the wine home or consume at the cafe (with no corkage charge).

And from the menu (pages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5), I ordered:-

1) 3 course lunch, $23 comprised of:-

(A) Soup of the day (above) – This was average. But I just realised (while doing up this review) my bread were not served although the menu stated the soup would come with bread slices.

(B) Beer battered fish & chips (above) – With a choice between ribeye steak and fish & chips for my main, I went with the latter since I don’t take beef. Batter was light and crispy, while fish was moist. However, I thought something was missing from the batter. It was.. Slightly bland. Thus explaining my usage of ‘light’ to describe the batter.

(C) Cake of the day (above) – Red velvet cake was the cake of the day. When I took a look at the cakes within the display shelf, I couldn’t help but noticed that I would be served the last slice. And when I had my cake, I wondered if they were trying to ‘clear stock’ cause the red velvet cake was dry (in the stale sense). It would have been better if they served the carrot cake which looked better.

(D) Cafe latte (above) – With a choice of either coffee or tea for my 3 courses lunch set, I chose latte which I had to top up another $1.50. On my second visit, I ordered my latte a-la carte and paid $5. And for their 3D latte art, one would need to request while placing order.

2) English waffle, $14 (above) – With veal sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon.

3) Chocolate banana waffle, $10.50 (above) – With Hershey chocolate, caramelised banana. This was good!

If one is in Novena and is looking for a quiet place to dine (since it gets really crowded at the eateries in Novena Square Shopping Mall and Novena Square 2), one may consider Kitchenette. On my 2 visits, the cafe was not too busy and thus easy to get seats. Maybe because I came on weekdays. Am not too sure about weekends.

And to entice the working crowd, Kitchenette has pretty good 1-for-1 deals. Like 1-for-1 waffles for Wednesdays and 1-for-1 fish & chips on Thursdays.
