Brunch @ O Batignolles
November 17, 2013 in European (cafe) by thywhaleliciousfay
While trying to determine a place to head off for brunch, my junior and I suddenly thought of O Batignolles. And with that, we were off for their brunch that’s available on weekends from 11am to 3.30pm. We could have ordered a-la carte, but we decided to go for their sets which gave us tea/coffee, orange juice, choice of bread (4 options) and choice of eggs (4 options).
And from the menu, we ordered the brunch set priced at $29:-
1) Choice of hot beverage (above) – With choice or either tea or coffee, I went with latte.
2) Fresh orange juice
3) Choice of bread with options of:-
(A) Blueberry pancakes (above) – The pancakes were unfortunately dry and hard. My junior also felt the syrup served did not taste like 100% maple syrup.
(B) Pains au chocolat basket (above) – I would not have thought of choosing this, but thankfully my junior did. The croissant and pain au chocolat were really good. Buttery and flaky. However, our basket was served without the mini bottle of jam. And when we requested for our missing jam, we were given a bottle which had been opened and used. Not good.
4) Choice of eggs with options of:-
(A) Eggs pacifico (above) – Smoked salmon on an english muffin with homemade hollandaise sauce & green salad. Otherwise priced at $13 if ordered a-la carte.
(B) Eggs benedict (above) – Swiss coppa on an english muffin with homemade hollandaise sauce & green salad. $13 if ordered a-la carte.
Beside the croissant and pain au chocolat, we were not too impressed with our brunching experience. The service could really do with lots of improvement. It was difficult to get the attention of the staff. When we wanted to get the used mini bottle of jam replaced, it was so difficult to get their attention that I gave up and walked to the counter to get a new bottle of jam. Even the barista behind the counter was too busy that I decided to take a new bottle without asking.
The cafe is not air-conditioned too, so it could be a little hot depending on the weather. So yes, I will only recommend O Batignolles for their croissants. Take away, please!
But if one doesn’t mind the bad service, there’s a buffet brunch set priced at $89 where one can get free flow of croissants and champagne.
