Dinner @ I Want My Noodle

And the opportunities to try the noodles at I Want My Noodle finally came when we were shopping in town and had to settle our meals. Keke. And I came once with my Mom and again with a friend. A special friend? Hahaha.

Similar to La Taperia, I Want My Noodle is located at the newly renovated wing of Shaw Centre. Yes, Shaw Centre. During my first attempt at trying to locate the eatery, I got slightly confused and thought they were located at Scotts Square. I don’t know how I could possibly make such a big mistake. Hmm…

Taken from their website, the people behind I Want My Noodle is a group of noodles lover. In fact, they (would like to) pride themselves as The Noodles Craftsmen. So it’s no surprise that the noodles at I Want My Noodle are made freshly every day. To order, we had to fill up an order slip before going to the cashier. Do bring sufficient cash as they only accept cash.

And from the menu (pages 1, 2), we ordered:-

1) My lor bah noodles, $12.90 (above) – Braised pork belly made with grandma’s secret recipe. We definitely had to try since the staff recommended it as 1 of their 2 signature dishes. And on the order slip, one can opt for ‘chilli’ or ‘no chilli’. And my friend went with spicy where the chilli was placed on the spoon.

2) My aromatic prawn noodle, $14.50 (above) – Either the prawns were not fresh or the prawns were overcooked as it was not easy to deshell the prawns; The shell stuck to the flesh. And what looked like french fries (haha) were keropok strips!

3) My chicken noodle soup, $9.90 (above)

4) My pork noodle, $8.90 (above) – Tossed in special broth and topped with savoury stir fry pork.

5) Fried wings, $7.90 (above) – Flourless fried wings with fiery homemade fresh sambal. I love my chicken wings and I liked these. Served piping hot, these were crispy on the exterior and really juicy on the inside. The chicken wings were good enough on its own.

6) Homemade meatballs soup, $7.90 (above) – Homemade meatballs in superior broth. With watercress mixed into the patty too, I thought the balls were a little soft to the bite. Probably the meat for these were not intended to be ‘packed’ densely. But the soup was thick and flavourful.

7) Pebbles, $3.90 (above) – Fried sweet potato and purple potato balls. I really liked this! The sweet potato ones were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Where as for the purple ones, I could taste its really dense texture. It was as though an entire purple potato was condensed into a small ball. Ha. All are fried balls, yet both have different 口感 (textures / tastes in the mouth).

And for all the (noodle) dishes, the same freshly made noodles were served. And I was impressed with the noodles. Although I wasn’t expecting it to be springy in appearance. Ha. Even my Mom who’s a harsh critic said the noodles were good. So when it comes to deciding which flavour to order, it’s really a matter of personal preference. Although during my 2 visits, their other signature dish ‘my noodle with double roast’ was sold out.

I probably will try the plain flavour on my next (possible) visit to really appreciate the noodles on its own. So yes, in a way… If one is craving for noodles in town, one may want to go to I Want My Noodle instead of food courts. But of course, with fresh ingredients used, the price for the noodles are slightly pricier. But I say, it’s well worth the money! Although my friend thinks otherwise (about the price tag).
